The Great Taj Mahal Conspiracy

Taj Mahal is without question the most famous—and possibly the most beautiful—building in India. Considered one of the modern wonders of the world, this ornate white marble building was created by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum to his deceased wife. Or was it?

P.N. Oak, an Indian writer, introduced a theory stating Shah Jahan's Taj Mahal is actually a temple which was dedicated to Lord Shiva, called Tejo Mahalaya. He mentioned many points referring to its name, documentary evidence in Mughal documents, architectural indication etc. There are no specific facts to prove the theory and nobody is equally aware about the pre-Shah Jahan existence of the Shiva temple.

While this may seem far-fetched to those of us who like Taj Mahal as it is, it’s worth noticing that Indian royalty have a history of capturing enemy temples and mansions and repurposing them into tombs for their loved ones. What’s more, the memoirs of travelers in the area during the time of Taj Mahal’s supposed construction make no mention of its building and even note that the “Taj” already existed as an important, established building.

Is Taj Mahal as the ultimate display of romance just a giant lie created by shoddy historians and propagandists? Until the Indian government agrees to open the sealed rooms within the building so they can be thoroughly investigated by experts, the mystery remains.

Shivkar Talpade, the Indian who made the first airplane:
We were taught in school that Wright Brothers made the first aeroplane in 1903. But according to the contradictory beliefs, Shivkar Talpade, an Indian scholar flew the first airplane called Marutsakha in 1895. There are no facts that prove Talpade's achievement and therefore no recognition has been given to him and this will always stay a mystery.

The Charleville Mansion

Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh is a city that is blessed by God not just with beautiful locations but also with clear waters and flowered valleys which make it one of the most attractive tourist destinations in India. The pleasant weather of the city was the reason that it was chosen as the summer capital of the British India Empire. Along with it, its picturesque hills have been the talks of several ghost stories. Highly acclaimed writer Rudyard Kipling also shares his experience of witnessing ghosts in Shimla in ‘My Own True Ghost Story’.

Queen Of Hills
A number of houses and hills are the part of haunted stories and are known tobe haunted with occasional appearance of mysterious people. In most of the cases of haunted houses, it is usually the ghosts of the previous occupants who either disappeared mysteriously or committed suicide due to one reason or other. One such house that is known as the most haunted house of Shimla is Charleville mansion.

The Story Behind Charleville Mansion
Charleville mansion is a lush mansion located in the hills of Shimla. A British man Victor Bayley was appointed as the Assistant Secretary of Railway Board and was posted in Shimla in October 1913. Victor and his wife spent a considerable time looking for a perfect home for them and settled for Charleville mansion owing to its location and the low rent. But they didn’t know that the house was known to have a poltergeist. In fact before them, an army officer used to live in that mansion. Even though he didn’t believe in ghosts, he wanted to test the authenticity of the mystery surrounding that home. So he decided to lock the room where most of the haunted activities were reported.
One night a large crash was heard and he was astonished to find the room in shatters. Everything had been turned upside down. Horrified he decided to vacate the home. Even after knowing all this, the Bayleys decided to stay in the mansion and continued to do so for over a year. Most of their stay was peaceful except for one particular incident. It was a cold night and the Bayleys were out for a dinner party. As the servant was waiting for them to return, he felt that his master was in fact present in a room. He went up to him and asked him if he wanted something. The British didn’t respond to him and went out through a closed door. The Bayleys vacated the house soon after.

Since then the house has seen several occupants and all of them have their own experiences to share. Even though the experiences are enough to send a chill down the spine of the readers and audience, the fact that these ghosts have never been violent in nature brings a sense of relief. The house is currently owned by an Indian gentleman who remodeled the mansion completely. But it is still the talk of the town with people reporting ghosts of Englishmen roaming the mansion.

Mystery Of 1,000 Ancient Carved Shiva Lingas Discovered In India And Cambodia

Over 1,000 Astonishing Shiva Lingas Can Be Seen In The Middle Of The Shalmala River

Sahasralinga is a pilgrimage place in the Sirsi Taluk in the district of Uttara Kannada of Karnataka state in India. The river Shalmala is today famous for more than thousand lingas which are carved on the rocks in the river bank.

Most of the lingas are clearly visible when the water level in the river is not very high.  So it shouldn't be surprising to learn that the name Sahasralinga means thousand-lingas in Sanskrit. It is a sacred site, and during Hindu festival Shivratri thousands of pilgrims visit this place and offer pujas.

This magnificent site was discovered in 1969, by an ethnologist named Jean Boulbet Unfortunately, his work was interrupted by the Cambodian Civil War and it took 20 years before the place was safe to visit.

Recently, due to dry weather, the water level of the Shalmala river in Karnataka receded, revealing the presence of thousands of Shiva Lingas.
According to historians, the lingas are believed to have been commissioned to be carved by Sadashiva Raya (who was also called the King of Sirsi), of the Vijayanagar Kingdom during 1678-1718.

A similar place exists in Cambodia. Cambodian Sahasralinga is located 25 kilometres from Angkor Watt, the largest Hindu temple outside of India. The place is called Kbal Spean and its meaning is ‘the Head Bridge’. Here, we also find plenty of carved lingas located in the middle of a river, but the place is not sacred and it is rarely visited other than by curious tourists. It should be added it is also difficult to access due to the surrounding wildness.

Shiva lingas in Cambodia

Long ago the kings used to come here for holy bath. It is unknown who carved these lingas and for what purpose. Locals believe that the Lingas are symbols of creative energy and the river water that flows on the lingas will make the Cambodian paddy fields more fertile. A lot of Hindu symbols were destroyed during the civil war in Cambodia. But these Sahasra Lingas were not affected because of the surrounding thick forest.
